What STCW courses cost in Dubai and the UAE

There is no single STCW price. What you pay depends on which certificates your rank requires, whether this is first certification or a refresher, and which approved centre has a seat on the week you are free.

Under STCW Regulation VI/1, no one joins a seagoing vessel without these four.

Where to take STCW courses in Dubai — approval decides, not price

An STCW certificate is worth exactly what the flag state and the vessel’s operator will accept. A cheaper course from a center without current recognized approval is not a saving; it is a certificate you may have to buy twice.

Before we enroll anyone we check three things:

1. The center’s approval is current and covers the specific course code you need.
2. The certificate will be accepted by the flag state your seaman book is issued under — Panama, Palau, Liberia, Bahamas, Belize, Honduras or St. Kitts & Nevis.
3. The dates work backwards from your joining date, not forwards from today.

How to apply for STCW certification from Dubai

1. Send your details. Rank, current certificates with expiry dates, and your joining date if you have one.
2. We confirm what you actually need. Some seafarers arrive convinced they need a full Basic Safety Training when two refreshers would do.
3. We find a center with a seat. Fee and dates confirmed with the center before you pay anything.
4. You attend. The center issues your certificate.
5. We hold the file in case your flag state asks for it later.

How much does an STCW course cost in Dubai?

An STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) course in Dubai typically costs between AED 900 and AED 5,500 ($250–$1,500 USD), depending on whether you are taking individual refresher modules or a full comprehensive training package. 

How long does STCW Basic Safety Training take in Dubai?

Five to seven days for the full four-module Basic Safety Training. Individual modules run one to one and a half days for Personal Survival Techniques and one and a half to two days for Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting. Certificates are typically issued one to two weeks after the course finishes.

Is an online STCW certificate valid?

Practical STCW modules — survival techniques, fire fighting, first aid — require in-person assessment and cannot be completed entirely online. An approved center may deliver some theory remotely. Treat any offer of a fully online STCW basic safety certificate as a reason to check that center’s approval before paying.

Do I need STCW if I already hold a seaman book? Yes. A seaman book records your identity and sea service; STCW records your competence. Flag states and operators require both. If your seaman book falls due at the same time, we can run the flag-state application or renewal alongside your course enrolment.
